The CIA Funding Startups

The CIA Funding Startups

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has a venture capital arm.

What Kind of Ventures Have They Funded?

One company received a recent infusion of cash from the CIA’s (In-Q-Tel) investment fund is Cleversafe, a startup that offers software to keep data stored in cloud networks secure by slicing it up and storing it in different locations. In-Q-Tel invests in startups developing technologies that could prove useful to the CIA and the national security community. In-Q-Tel invites startups to submit applications for funding through its website and issues a press release every time it funds a new company.

What technologies is the CIA interested in now?

The next big trend in data is going to be geolocation, and the power to predict where you’re going to go next and who you spend the most time with.

The Metropolis Next Generation Design Competition
Admin
To promote environmental activism, social involvement, and entrepreneurship in young designers.
2011 competition is for a Zero Environmental Footprint for a GSA building. Your design should challenge how we work from a environmentally friendly perspective. What we use, how we get where we need to go, hidden costs to our pocketbooks and the overall influence on our environment, across the whole design spectrum. Focus should be on one area that needs fixing—products, interiors, buildings, landscape, communication systems, or anything else you can imagine—and develop your idea fully, or develop a whole system of fixes.
Here’s a chance to think big and test your ideas through the Next Generation competition.
Entry Deadline
The entry submission is by January 31, 2011 (3) Submission limit. The Next Generation Design Competition is open to any designer or architect in practice for ten years or less, as well as design students. The prize $10,000 and for more information click here.
